Overcoming Fear: Finding Rest in Trust and Faith

Overcoming Fear: Finding Rest in Trust and Faith

What keeps us awake at night? What fears haunt us? What nightmares visit us repeatedly? Worrying about things that matter to us is a common experience, but when does it go too far?

We often worry because we want things to turn out well. We seek success, happiness, and comfort, avoiding thoughts of misfortune. But sometimes our worries begin to dominate every aspect of our lives, often about things that may never happen. We imagine the worst and feel overwhelmed, losing focus, energy, and sleep.

The more we avoid facing our fears, the more powerful they seem. Yet fear only has the power we give it. When we confront it, we can often discover there’s nothing to fear at all. Fear is rooted in our desire for control. But letting go of that need can bring peace, allowing us to accept that we cannot always change the outcome, no matter how much we worry.

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Trusting God with what we can’t control helps us let go of fear and rest in His perfect peace.
