The Glory in Submission
Scripture:
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
— James 4:7 (NIV)
Message:
In today’s world, submission is often misunderstood. It can be seen as weakness or defeat. However, in God’s kingdom, submission is a powerful act of faith and trust that leads to glory and victory. True submission is not about losing power but about aligning ourselves with the will and authority of God. It is a humble recognition that His plans and purposes for our lives are far greater than anything we could achieve on our own.
When we submit to God, we surrender control to Him, trusting that He knows what is best for us. This act of submission is glorifying to God because it acknowledges His sovereignty and invites Him to take the lead in every area of our lives. It is an expression of our faith that God is able to guide us, protect us, and work everything out for our good.
Jesus, the Son of God, gave us the ultimate example of submission. In the Garden of Gethsemane, knowing the suffering He was about to face, He prayed, “Not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Jesus willingly submitted to the Father’s plan, and through His obedience, He brought salvation to the world. The glory that followed His submission was the resurrection and the exaltation of Christ above all powers and principalities. His submission led to the greatest victory ever known.
When we submit to God, we also position ourselves for victory. The scripture says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Submission to God gives us authority over the enemy. It empowers us to stand firm in faith, knowing that the battle belongs to the Lord.
Submission also brings peace. When we stop striving to control everything and allow God to take the reins, we experience His peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). We no longer have to carry the weight of life’s burdens on our own because we trust in God’s faithfulness to provide, protect, and guide us.
There is a hidden glory in submission that the world often overlooks. It is the glory of humility, obedience, and trust in God’s plan. As we yield our hearts to Him, we find strength, purpose, and joy that can only come from living in alignment with His will.
The key to experiencing this glory is surrender. We must be willing to lay down our own desires, plans, and ambitions, and allow God to direct our paths. As we do, we will see His glory revealed in our lives, and we will walk in the fullness of His blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender my heart and will to You today. Help me to submit fully to Your plans, trusting that You are working everything out for my good. Give me the strength to resist the enemy and the grace to follow Your leading. Let Your glory be revealed in my life as I live in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
